What a good invoice includes
- Who it's from and to — your business name, phone and address, and your customer's name.
- An invoice number and date, numbered in order (INV-0001, INV-0002…), plus a due date so the customer knows when to pay.
- Each item with quantity, rate and amount, then the subtotal, any discount and tax, and the total.

Invoice, bill or cash memo?
An invoice asks for payment — usually with a due date. A bill is the everyday word for the same thing in most shops. A cash memo is given when the customer pays on the spot. Before a sale is agreed, send a quotation instead.
